The Skincloakers are a race of shape-changers, with the original form being a sleek and tall gaunt figure, with featureless, smooth and jet-black skin, and their face lacking any obvious facial elements. They could change their height and bulk, but there’s one thing they could not do, which is to have a face. Therefore they go lurking for victims, incapacitate them and using their sharp talons, skin their victims alive and wear their skin.
- A recent waves of murder have hit a small, but burstling trading outpost. Many merchants are found dead, but there is a curious element to their death. From their state of decomposition, they appeared to have died far longer thaan they should have been. A Skincloaker has been trying to hide its presence; when its disguise is begin to rot, he would shed it and carefully ‘return’ it to is previous owner. The adventurers would evidently catch the Skincloaker in its act, for the creature always emit a unique smell…
- A Skincloaker is seeking a way to preserve its disguise forever, without the need of skinning new victims regularly. It has found an alchemist who is willing to devise a mixture which would slow the decay of skins, but his work requires, and has resulted, in the death of many homeless, beggars and innocent passer-bys (”killing off the locals would incur too much suspicion”, he had explained). Eventually, the alchemist would perfect the mixture…and he would blackmail the Skincloaker into doing a number of nerfarious deed for him. And the alchemist is a paranoid, a bitter person who bears many grudges – and he may has something against the adventurers.
- An entire group of Skincloakers are traveling across the country disguised as lepers. What is their motive, and why are creatures, whom usually operate alone, suddenly moving together amass?
