It may be a case of mistaken delivery or a practical prank, but a merchant has just received a weird shipment, among which is a chest full of teeth! The origins of those teeth cannot be readily determined, but they look like humans’ and the merchant is too perturbed to check out the rest of the delivery at the warehouse; he sends the adventurers to do a quick stock check, but upon reaching the PCs realise that the plot is deepening…
- The shipment consists of bizarre ingredients, such as the eyes of newts, dried nightshade, an unicorn skull and (which only a sorcerer or wizard can determine) goblin’s blood. Another large crate contains books with faded pages and bound in thick leather. Who is the shipment for? Why is the merchant handling it? Alas, when they returned, they find the merchant’s residence razed to the ground, missing and the chest of teeth missing. Those happened to be teeth of elves! Who is this mysterious customer of the merchant’s
- Arriving at the warehouse, the adventurers chanced upon a group of cloaked and hood men prowling about, while others are searching through the merchant’s other goods. It seems that the chest was smuggled onto the merchant’s caravans without his knowledge but the smugglers was foiled at retrieving the goods before it enters the warehouse. Following those men, or by overpowering one of them, the adventurers would realise that they are from a secretive, outlawed order in the city; they claim to need the teeth to perform a ritual that will purge the surrounding areas of a great evil. Should the adventurers trust them?
- It is at the warehouse when suddenly a great number of troops marched in, headed by a couple of priests from the predominant temple of the city. “Blasphemy!” they will cry, pointing a finger at the adventurers. “You are all heretics!” They would proceed to ransack the merchant’s goods, only to find nothing out of the ordinary. The teeth are planted evidence! The false claims are refuted for the time being, but now the priests have a bead on the adventurers too and would be shortly contacted to see if they are with the merchant or with them. Should the adventurers side with the merchant? Should they investigate the merchant a bit more, though, they would realise that he is too acting strangely ever since the chest of teeths have arrived, prowling about a desolate island a few miles off the shore…
