During the height of the Emphidian Empire (see Dragon Warriors), the Library of Threaxisa was one of the greatest centres of learning and scholarship. However, during the fall of the Emphidian Empire by the hands of the Old Selentine Empire, the library was ransacked, then burnt to the ground. Many sages still lament the loss of many writings of the ancient philosopher-mystics and scholars of old. Yet the library was not completely destroyed…
- The Great Library also comprised of a hidden underground complex, where many of the scholars at the time of the ransacking fled to. Unfortunately, the ruins of the Great Library above sealed the entrance, and all those within were trapped. An Emphidian scholar has chanced upon an ancient text mentioning the underground library, and had a map which revealed the secret entrance. The adventurers are called in for escort (Sorcerers and Mystics would not pass up the chance to be one of the oldest libraries of all). The ruins, however, has became a point of contention among various small Emphidian tribes. Getting there without being seen would be a problem; not mention what if those trapped within the underground library are still alive (is that even possible? The adventurers may want to think about the nature of the knowledge which the ancient library was hoarding…)
- During the siege, the intention was to preserve the Library of Threaxisa – there was a treatise which the Imperator commanding the battle wanted to get badly. A crack troop of Selentium legion were sent in and the Emphdian fought a pitched battle in the library, resulting in it being burnt down to the ground. According to history, the treatise which the Imperator wanted was never found, for none of the Imperial troops emerged and tales talked of a hidden underground library where the real treasure of the Library lies. Now, an Emphidan activist who wished to restore the glory of the Emphidan Empire wished to look for that treatise, believing it to be something of import. And the New Selentine Empire would always be very interested in the knowledge too.
- When the city of Threaxisa was deemed lost, arrangements were made by the Librarians to ship out the most important archives through a secret tunnel. Many of those old tomes and parchments are now in the various island-monasteries scattered across Emphdor. Yet there the last crate that is to be smuggled out of the tunnel never arrived, and by then the city had fallen. Surely, it must still be within the tunnels under the ruined library. To locate the tunnel, the adventurers would have to talk to various monasteries, for each has a fragment of the map of the library. Once those are assembled, the adventurers could locate the library, the tunnel, and perhaps that last crate of lost knowledge.
