The small fishing villages along the coast of the Shimmering Cape have relied on the still, calming winds that blow in the region for ages. The winds are either violent or too calm, perfect for the larger fishing vessels and making working on the smaller boats safer. However, this is not always so. In the long past, the winds there are violent, and the one who called them to frenzy was styled the Caller of the Winds. Folk tales told of the various sacrifices the villagers had to offer to appease the Caller of the Winds so that they may be able to fish in the waters. The final fate of this enigmatic individual depended on which tale you listen to.
Recently, the winds have become more aggressive, and massive storms begin to whip at the villages along the coastline, something which had not happened for ages. Have the Caller of the Winds returned?
- Up among the hills of the Shimmering Cape is an area where one could attune to the element of air. Air Elementalists usually would seek out such a place to master their discipline and control the element of air. The previous Caller of the Winds was one such individual and he used his power to extort from the villagers. The motive of the new Caller of the Winds is yet uncertain and the adventurers may have to make their way up the dangerous Windshorn Crags to confront the elementalist. Perhaps he does not know of the effect he has on the villagers…or perhaps he does.
- There was no Caller of the Winds – long before the natural wind blew violently and devastated the coast of the Shimmering Cape, yet people still dwell there because of the rich catches. A passing Sorcerer took pity on the villagers’ lot and went up to the Windshorn Crags and there place an enchantment which weakened the winds. Now, decades later, a passing Air Elementalist is attempting to undo the enchantment. The reason? The enchantment is causing a drought in a distant land because of the weakened wind. There are three ways out of this conundrum. The first is to simply kill the Air Elemenatlist; the second is to find a way in which the villagers could be sheltered from the ravages of the storm, and lastly, the third is to restore balance via a similar enchantment, of which the adventurers would have to provide.
- The Caller of the Winds was an ancient elementalist, and his disappearance was in accordance with a popular folk tale. A cunning lady from the village sought advice from a passing Mystic and understood that the element of Air could not abide that of Earth. Among the tribute paid to the Caller of the Winds was one virgin sacrifice. The lady volunteered to go, but had a plan in mind. She had prepared a handful of gold faerie dust (how she got to it made for another one of the exciting tales in the saga) hidden about her and catching the Caller of the Winds unaware, she showered him with it, turning him into a statue. Yet a recent disturbance weakened the enchantment, and the Caller of the Winds is about to reawake.
