The serfs from a small fiefdom have been disappearing. The lord has issued a call for investigation but his own knights have not been able to uncover the reasons. Suspecting sorcery, the nobleman asks the adventurers (which may include a sorcerer) to look into the matter.
- The lord has been selling his own serfs as slaves to richen his coffers; a low ranking sorcerer has been hired by him (who gets a split on the profits…and other benefits) to lay down false trails for any would-be investigators. There would be hints of forbidden rituals, strange experiments and even the occasional summoned skeletons – though the truth is much more mundane.
- A strange religion has been sweeping the recent countryside and the noble family there has been caught up in the wake of it. As macabre as it sounds, the lords and ladies have consider the serfs as just no more than livestock and animals literally – they have been sacrificing them in ritual worship and conduct gruesome hunts with them. The new cult kidnaps the serfs while the guards were given false information and were mislead by their own leaders. One of the knights in the rank may be in the know though.
- Serfs have been escaping with the aid of an old cottar, whose well behind his cottage is actually house an abandoned tomb with passageways leading throughout the fief. The tomb though is not safe and one of these days one of those escaping serfs (who hope to reach a free town near by) may stumble upon something that is ought not to be disturbed.
