There is something uncanny about the the new well which has been dug. Perhaps it is because the villagers found it in a forsaken part of the settlement, filled with ruins. Perhaps it is because the location is so obvious that anyone could have found the well already. Or perhaps it is because strange wails and moans have been coming up from the well?
- A Mystic once retreated into the bottom of the cavern where the source of the water is and attain adepthood there. But his enemies took the opportunity to seal the entrance of the cavern such that the Mystic could not get out. Eventually, the Mystic finished his mediation but found himself trapped. He died but his hatred and psionic energy still lingers, becoming a sort of wraith. Strange of dreams of being buried alive and emtombment would haunt the sleep of the villagers, slowly driving them insane, till the well is sealed or the dead Mystic confronted with.
- There was once a Mystic by the name of Helrugiem who forged many mighty weapons which were sought by nobles and lords. However, it was soon uncovered that his weapons were forged in the most ghastly way ever as to reduce the time and improves the ‘quality’. Hearts of young children, even infants, were burned in an occultic ritual along with the blades. A group of priests and knights dispatched Helrugiem, but at his death he cursed those weapons. Those around them have an irrational wish to possess them, and this lead to much envy and cold-blooded murder. The priests decided to bury all his weapons within the cavern, for there was no craft avaliable to destroy them. And now the villagers have unearthed the cavern…
- A young woman with Mystic-like powers was wrongly accused as a witch and was thrown into the well, which was then sealed. After her death a demon offered her the chance to wreck living nightmares on the village and she agreeded. The old settlement built around the well was destroyed and eventually a new group of settlers come in but ignored the ruins because of rumours. Now the rumours have all but gone and the memories of the event lost. The ghost has transformed the cavern into a living entity; the water has an acid tang to it, and would kill crops and posion those who drink it (weak poison). The plant life at the entrance of the well will wither or turn hostile and as each day passes, the radius of this effect increases by 2 metres, till it devours the entire village.
