Barbarians rarely ventured deep into civilised areas, but numerous bands of them have been seemed skirting at the foothills near the border of a fief, bordering Thuland. They have taken a remarkable interest in ruined forts and holdings.
- The Barbarians are refuges, driven away from their home. They are willing to trade and to barter, or even seek aid against the foes which have destroyed their home. They may even be wanted and are fortifying themselves, perhaps against rival war-bands. An escalation of the strife may spell trouble for the small fief, whose Lord has no wishes for any violence.
- A “vision” has prompted those bands to seek out the remains of a sage-king among those ruins and abandoned holdings. They may have been manipulated by a shamanistic Mystic who is using the barbarians, risking their lives, to find lost artefacts or tomes of knowledge. The sage-king of their lore may even have existed and perhaps his Last Will buried with him. With that, the long disparate tribes will be united once more…
- Barbarians have usually pillaged the more isolated villages or holdings, but this time round they wish to establish a foothold at the edge of the fief, hence the scouting of the ruins, seeking suitable bases to store supplies, weapons or even slaves. Their motive is more than mere bloodshed though; a famine ravages their land and there is a need for them to secure more food. Perhaps a diplomatic party may avoid unnecessary bloodshed…bloodshed which someone is planning for?
